...but they will never take our internets!

I've been supporting Access Now for quite some time. It's an organization that pursues the rights of free internet.
People's attention to this matter has very much faded after the SOPA/PIPA/ACTA. However, the superpowers have not, by far, stopped trying to have a wider control of the internet.
The ITU, International Telecomunication Union, an institution within UN, is meeting to set global guidelines of centralised internet control. That would indeed endanger our freedom of speech.
So, there's a couple things you can do: https://www.accessnow.org/page/s/itu -sign the petition!
and if you've signed the petition, what about writing a letter to the ITU representative in your region: https://www.accessnow.org/itu-email ?

And so I'm not just telling you what to do, I'll publish here the letter I wrote to the ITU rep for Europe:

Subject ITU: show us who you are
Message You, the representative of ITU are directly in charge of deciding about an important part of public life - the internet. And that is why I would like you to deal with this responsibility responsibly.

No one would ever forbid two friends from borrowing a book, or sharing a meal. However, do the very similiar things online and things get bad. The Chinese government knows it.
If you send a letter, it would be illegal for the post office to check its content. Yet, online, that is exactly what the Russia tries to do, argumenting with the "malware and spam threat".

Internet is a great thing. It really is, all of us know it. But why is it so?
Because it is the sanctuary of free speech, of human free creativity. Taking away this great opportunity of letting your opinion known would be one of the worst things any government or NGO could do.

When I saw the ITU leaks recently, I must say - I was shocked and disgusted.

I believe you have done some great work, but especially the propositions of China, Russia and Iran in the recent leaks feel, to me, like a complete violation of right of free speech. And that is one of the human rights I treasure the most.

There is not any worse way of distributing information than through leaks.
Please, release your documents to the public.
And also, please, try to avoid as much as possible all the propositions that would destroy the freedom of internet.

Thank you.
